Gajendra Moksha, A cry for help to the Supreme power

Gajendra Moksha: Today in these distress times of disease and uncertainty reach out to that power for help as when all doors close, that is one window that is always open. Just like on Draupadi’s calling no help came from her relations of the materialistic world but when she called out to Krishna, he came. He will come to your rescue if called with unshaken unconditional faith and complete surrender.

Gajendra is another name for the elephant and moksha means freedom or salvation. This is a stotra which the king of elephants sang as a distress call for help to Lord Vishnu who came to free him from the clutches of the crocodile. It’s symbolic of us as souls or Purush in the process of experiencing Prakriti, get stuck in the expanse of It. We get so engrossed that we forget our true selves.

Then we struggle  to free ourselves from it. Sense gratification, ego, duties, fear, attachment all create new karmas which result in karm bandhan. This keeps us chained to the cycle of life and death or the karmic cycle. Only when we call Paramatma into our lives with full surrender and acceptance can we liberate from the misery and pain. This will help us gain  consciousness finally connecting us with our true self, removing all the illusions of Maya. This is an excellent chant to relief you of your miseries and to invoke the blessings of Lord Vishnu in your life.

The legend goes that once a king of elephants lived in a dense forest on a three peaked mountain called the Trikuta. Tri means three. The elephant was enjoying playing with other elephants of the herd in a lake when an crocodile held on to his leg. As a usual reflex he called out to his family and friends who tried to help him using all their might and yet failed terribly. To save their own selves they left his side. Gajendra, the elephant tried to free himself using all the tricks in the book.

The struggle went on for a long period of time. This exhausted him. He had lost a lot of blood and the power as well as the will to fight back. The crocodile was unhurt and powerful. In this difficult and trying moment he was faced with the reality that only Narayan could save him. Desperate to be saved he picked up a lotus from the water below. He then holding  the lotus in his trunk, offered it to the Lord and called out to him with all earnestness and emergency. His faith was deep rooted and firm. This undoubted faith compelled Lord Vishnu to come to the elephant’s rescue.

He came riding on his Gadud and saved him from the crocodile by killing him using his Sudershan. Only the Paramatma can kill the darkness of Maya which gives us grief so try to bring him into your life. He has the power to free us from the clutches of the five avidhyas, namely Rag, Dwesh, Abhinavesha, Asmita and Avidhya itself. This will help us come closer to our true self . Symbolically we are the elephant king and these five avidhyas, the crocodile.

Literally too both the crocodile and elephant were freed from their respective curses. Strangely, the crocodile then took the form of a gandharva whose name was Huhu. He had been cursed by a sage that he would become a crocodile. The sage had told him that he would be freed from the curse by Lord Vishnu himself. His prophecy came true. The elephant on the other hand had earlier been a king  named Indradyumna. This king too had been cursed by a sage like the gandharva.  He was cursed to be born as an elephant. With this incident Lord Vishnu liberated Indradyumna too from his curse.

Read this chant with faith and surrender in these times to ensure divine intervention. It will guide you towards the right cure be it Corona virus or any other issue.
